About Us

We develop a collaborative artistic practice centred on the relationship between image, technology and space. Our work spans different areas of new media, including creative programming, video, projection, 3D modelling and interactive systems, exploring formats ranging from installation to audiovisual performance. We have been developing projects that combine digital processes with performative elements, seeking to establish forms of interaction between the artwork, the space and the audience. The use of emerging technologies is not merely a technical tool, but forms part of the conceptual language of each project.Through an experimental approach, we explore themes linked to perception, memory, the body and presence, developing works that adapt to the exhibition context and enhance the visitor’s experience. Each project results from the combination of the skills of both, bringing together technical research, visual development and artistic experimentation in a collaborative practice characterised by constant dialogue.

Guilherme Cruz

I'm a multimedia artist working at the intersection of technology, 2D art, and traditional animation, a practice that moves from static image to interactive image, from traditional narrative toward the systems of digital games and generative art.
I'm drawn to color as a language of emotion and meaning and to interactive installation and digital art, where I combine Portuguese cultural heritage with creative coding, motion sensors, and sound to explore collective memory and social responsibility. More recently, my work has turned toward gender and queerness, using interactive technology to materialize identity, vulnerability, and transformation. At the core of it all is a fascination with human psychology, a curiosity about how people feel and respond, translated into art that invites participation rather than passive viewing.

Sílvio Ferreira

I am a designer and visual artist, currently studying for a Master’s degree in Media Arts at the University of Minho. I began my career in graphic design, a field in which I continue to work professionally, developing projects in visual identity, communication and digital media.
At the same time, I have been devoting myself to my artistic practice, using 3D, creative programming, video and interactive systems to develop installations and audiovisual performances. My work focuses on experimenting with new media and creating visual experiences that incorporate technology as an integral part of both the process and the artwork.

As Memórias que Pisamos

"As Memórias que Pisamos" is an interactive installation that weaves together references to Portuguese culture (traditional cobblestone pavement (calçada), the myth of Adamastor from Camões' "Os Lusíadas," and the imagery of the Portuguese Age of Discovery) with a critical reflection on humanity's relationship with nature and the sea.
Projected onto the floor of a dark room, the piece invites the audience to step on and "destroy" the virtual pavement, a gesture symbolizing the attempt to escape the consequences of human action. Yet no matter how much the viewer moves, the pavement always returns, because there is no escaping the past, nor the collective responsibility for environmental exploitation and the social catastrophes that stem from it.
The work incorporates rewritten excerpts from the Adamastor episode alongside verses by Carlos Drummond de Andrade (from "A Flor e a Náusea"), combined with illustration, animation, sound design, and body-tracking interaction via Kinect, all developed in Processing.

Live Visuals Will Samson

At the intersection of sound and image, the Master’s in Media Arts at the University of Minho has teamed up with one of the most distinctive figures in contemporary British folk, Will Samson.
The artist, renowned for his work in the ambient folk scene and for collaborations with leading labels such as Wichita Recordings and 12k, presented his new album, Sings Again, released in May 2026, in Braga.

The concert, held in the outdoor courtyard of gnration, was the result of a direct partnership between the artist and ten students from the Master’s in Media Arts programme. Over the course of several weeks, between classes and rehearsals, the students developed five visual projects designed specifically to accompany, in real time, the songs from the new album.
The creative process involved a constant dialogue between academic research and applied artistic practice, resulting in the design of a visual ecosystem operated entirely on stage by the students themselves.

On the day of the performance, Will Samson’s music, accompanied by João Graça on the violin, took on a new dimension through the landscapes and reflections projected onto the planters and windows of gnration’s outdoor courtyard. The intimacy and emotional vulnerability that characterise Sings Again thus found a visual counterpart conceived from scratch for the occasion.
This collaboration reinforces the role of the Master’s in Media Arts at the University of Minho as a space for artistic production with a direct impact beyond the academic context, bringing students into contact with professional processes of live visual creation, in dialogue with leading international artists.

O Silêncio do Indizível

O Silêncio do Indizível (The Silence of the Unspeakable) is a generative audiovisual work developed in Processing. It examines how violence spreads through indifference, social fragmentation, and collective silence. Rather than depicting a specific historical event, the piece builds an abstract system in which simple geometric forms interact according to a set of behavioural rules, allowing conflict to emerge over time.

The work unfolds through a sequence of stages that gradually shift from coexistence to hostility. As new groups appear and relationships change, aggression becomes contagious, reshaping the behaviour of the entire system. The simulation is designed so that no outcome feels scripted, even though every interaction follows a defined logic. Its visual language draws from early arcade games, pixel art, and CRT displays. The reduced palette and low resolution strip each figure down to its essentials, leaving movement and interaction to carry the narrative. The contrast between this familiar aesthetic and the subject matter creates a deliberate sense of unease.

The project combines a multi agent system with layered rendering techniques to support hundreds of autonomous entities in real time. The soundtrack, composed in VCV Rack, evolves alongside the simulation, adding another layer to the work without directing its interpretation. Together, sound and image form an open ended reflection on conflict, memory, and the consequences of remaining silent.

This video documents our visual work for "Mantle of the Annunciation: surrender, chalice (be silent), pour forth the Word made flesh", an interactive art installation created by artist and researcher Tássia Murad Abreu (Federal University of São João del Rei, UFSJ), presented as part of the project "REdesCOBRIMENTOs: body clothing environment relationships".

The installation took place on 27 and 28 June at the Braga Cathedral Tower, on Rua do Souto, combining an open sculpture with a large scale video mapping projection onto the tower's façade. The sculpture, a mantle woven with Mercês lace from the Alto das Mercês community in São João del Rei, Minas Gerais, invited passers by to physically engage with the work by wearing it, becoming both receivers and senders of the meanings embedded in the piece.

Our role was to design and produce the visuals for this projection, translating the collective's digital weaving into a moving, luminous skin over the tower, working alongside a live sound and vocal performance by Clara Torres, Leonor Vanzeler on the cello, and sound recording and editing by Luís Pinto and Pedro Gaspar.
